Brighton Center Receives Grant from Kentucky Bar Foundation to Continue Addressing Housing Needs in Northern Kentucky

Brighton Center, Inc. received a $10,000 grant from the Kentucky Bar Foundation for rental counseling. This grant will allow Brighton Center to advocate and educate on Tenant’s Rights and will provide housing and rental counseling to assist individuals and families with identifying and maintaining housing.

Brighton Center’s Housing Advocacy and Tenant Education project will address the housing needs of families in the eight counties of Northern Kentucky. The project will include the creation of an updated Housing Handbook that details tenants’ rights and provides tips on how to be a successful tenant. This Handbook will be distributed among Brighton Center’s 45 programs. The project will also provide monthly workshops that address fair housing law, housing discrimination, fair market rent reasonableness, and rights for landlords and tenants.

“Access to safe, income-aligned housing is a key part of Brighton Center’s Strategic Plan,” said Jenny Wiley, Housing and Family Well-Being Director. “This grant will impact the whole community by providing us with the opportunity to work collaboratively with landlords and tenants to provide education and resources. This will help to ensure that tenants can stay housed or find housing.”

Brighton Center has been a HUD-Certified Housing Counseling Agency for more than 20 years, providing both rental and homeownership counseling. Brighton Center offers monthly workshops that focus on budgeting, banking, credit building, and fair housing.
