"I feel so blessed to have been a part of the growing years of Brighton Center."
I moved to Northern Kentucky in 1966 the same year that Brighton Center (then known as Brighton Street Center) was founded. One of the first people I met at St. Thomas Parish was Gert Lorenz. We both volunteered to co-lead a Cub Scout troop. Gert was one of the first volunteers at Brighton Center and she invited me to join her at the little storefront building at 8th and Brighton Streets. Gert Lorenz talked to women in all the churches in Fort Thomas inviting them to join a group to help the center. In 1970 Brighton Center Guild was formed. Our first fundraiser was a Tasters Luncheon. 50+ women planned, cooked and served bite-sized portions to about 50 women. We did this for 20 years. The other event that we held each year was the Lamplighter Ball. In the first five years we had raised $25,000 for Brighton Center. I served as the first president of the Guild and was a member of the Board of Brighton Center from 1970 to 1974 serving as president in 1974. I feel so blessed to have been a part of the growing years of Brighton Center.
